Alise Spinella makes paintings and drawings by translating elusive elements (sound, breath, memory) through the sensing body and into gestural form. Spinella received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, a BA in Psychology and Computer Science from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her artwork has been shown nationally and internationally in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, and Rome, and most recently at PØST Gallery in Los Angeles and Fellows of Contemporary Art (FOCA) in Los Angeles. Spinella is an alumna of residency fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center and Arteles Creative Center, Finland, and has been granted a Hemera Foundation Tending Space Fellowship Award (2014) and a California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists (2015). She lives and works in Los Angeles.
